Can a family member go as a guardian?
Yes, an adult family member can go as a paying guardian, as we generally have a one-to-one ratio of Guardian to one veteran. The person must be able to handle the rigors of the day (potentially push veteran in "honor chair" (i.e. wheelchair), walk on uneven sidewalks, pavers, etc., and understand and have an attitude that the entire flight day is ALL ABOUT OUR VETERANS, not us.
Spouses and life-partners are not permitted to serve as guardian for their veteran spouse at the recommendation of HFN guidelines (should there be extenuating circumstances - such as hospice - a specific email requesting a phone conversation should be made to: [email protected])
If a veteran has ANY inkling of any idea they want a specific guardian - it must be noted ON THEIR VETERAN application, and the GUARDIAN application must be received within 2 weeks of their application, and not after Veteran has been confirmed. We cannot make any guarantees.

How much does it cost?
Cost is free for Veterans. Guardians varies per flight. Estimate now is around $550.00.
Can I make a donation to Honor Flight?
Honor Flight gratefully accepts donations from anyone EXCEPT WWII Veterans. We feel that Vets have given enough. We are a 501(c)3 non-profit charitable organization, and donations are tax-deductible.
How do you decide which veterans get to go?
Veterans are flown on a “first-come, first-served basis.” Within the applicants, top priority is given to WWII, Korean and any Veteran from any era with a life-limiting illness. We also give priority to female veterans from all eras. Applicants will receive a confirmation email (please be sure you list an email address that is active and checked often) informing them that their application has been received. The general "wait" is approximately 2-3 flights.
How are you funded?
Southwest Florida Honor Flight receives no corporate or government sponsorship. Our funding comes primarily from individuals across the country that recognize the great accomplishments and sacrifices of Veterans and want them to see their memorial before it’s too late. Other significant contributors have been fraternal organizations like local American Legion, VFW, Am Vets, DAV, MOPH, posts and chapters.

What if the veteran is on oxygen or will need a wheelchair?
At Southwest Florida Honor Flight, we call wheelchairs "HONOR CHAIRS" — We own 70 light weight "honor chairs" that we will take along with us on flight day. All veterans must agree that regardless of whether they believe they need it or not, that if at any point on flight day a flight staff member, EMT/Medic or Guardian ask them to ride in the honor chair, they will.
OXYGEN — SWFHF does not provide Oxygen at this time. Use and care of an Oxygen concentrator is the responsibility of the veteran and must be provided by them in order to fly.
